Blind Ambitions Fund Raiser

Bryan Dodge and Mark Marv

An Open Letter from Mark Marvel, President of Blind Ambitions Groups

Bryan Dodge has generously chosen Blind Ambitions Groups as the sole charitable organization he supports; and for that, Bryan, we are grateful. Blind Ambitions Groups (BAG) is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization (NPO) serving the blind and visually impaired since 2003. BAG’s programs include monthly support groups, diabetes education, computer training, job training, and placement services for the blind and visually impaired. BAG hosts monthly support groups for the blind and visually impaired and their families to assist them in education, training, and support. In addition, our Eyes on Employment (EOE) program educates the students on personal and socialization skills, resume writing, application training, job-searching, and interviewing skills. Job placement assists them with job leads and employment assistance, plus advocacy and job retention after being hired. In 2008, we added a diabetes education program to teach blind diabetics how to live with diabetes (nutrition, use of assistive devices for testing blood/glucose levels, administering insulin, and other information and resources). Two weekly national radio talk shows (Sound of Sight and Eyes on Employment) focus on issues of the blind and visually impaired, plus information and opportunities for employment. A third radio program (Main Menu Live) is to be added soon.

Blind Ambitions Groups 2009 financial goal is to raise 1.5 million dollars, because later this year, we will be moving into our new office with a computer lab to train students in assistive technology, basic computer skills to write and update their resumes so the students can research jobs, and achieve employment in order to feel like a contributing member of society. In order to accomplish this task, we need to enlarge our office, implement new programs, and hire new staff, thereby increasing the presence of blind and visually impaired people in the workforce, both nationwide and in the Dallas area.

In July 2008, Bryan and BAG co-hosted the “First Annual Bryan Dodge / Blind Ambitions Groups Extravaganza.” This one-day event brought together business people from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for Bryan’s “Build a Better You” presentation. This has now become an annual event. You won’t want to miss the “Second Annual Bryan Dodge / Blind Ambitions Groups Extravaganza” in 2009 (date and location to be announced). As in 2008, all of the proceeds will benefit Blind Ambitions Groups. Thank you so much for your support in 2009.

You can join Bryan in supporting us to reach our goal and achieve our purposes in another way.  To give your tax-deductible gifts at any time, you can go to our website at www.blindambitionsgroups.org/donations.html, or send your check or money order to Blind Ambitions Groups at the address below.
