Then here is the first of eight steps you must take in my new program called Living Forward in Life. Learn to laugh sooner; laugh about your mistakes in life. Learn from your mistakes. When you can say to your friends ―Do you remember when… and everybody laughs and it‘s okay, then you are able to move forward. The key is to not wait for months or years or even a lifetime before you arrive at that point. Move the laughter forward and your life will move forward in a very positive way. Just let it go and set yourself free to experience the true abundance that was meant for you. That is my goal: to help you build a better you, one day at a time.

The Good Life Rules!

I speak to many executives from a variety of corporations every year and the resounding question that is posed to me is, ― If I am doing everything to be successful why am I still struggling to capture the happiness that comes with success? Many times in life, we fall prey to holding on to past regret, sorrow, disappointments, bitterness, and guilt. It doesn‘t make us feel good when we ponder these past indiscretions, but we can‘t seem to let them go. It hasn‘t helped us see tomorrow any better either, especially when we seem to be focusing on what happened to us yesterday. If only yesterday was the biggest problem.

I believe it‘s more like weeks, months, or even years past that build up too many negative thoughts, weighing people down with these regretful moments. They continue to pop up when you least expect them—times when you should be enjoying life. We push our lives into those negative places and we then find our emotional bucket being poured out. It creates a black hole deep inside us. It can get worse, though. This hole develops teeth that make the fall have a real bite, resulting in scars that can become infected if left unhealed.

The Good Life Rules!

Bryan Dodge

I received an email today, and although I never read the email because I knew it was an advertisement for a product that I was not interested in, the catch line kept coming back to me. It read, “Three Things in Life That, Once Gone, Never Come Back: Time, Words, and Opportunity.” I started meditating and preaching to myself on those words. As I write this article, I think of Bryan Dodge’s teaching that we are all leaders at one level or another. And as a leader, we all must manage these three things well.

I still believe that time management is more of a mindset than a set of rules. If you are not using your time wisely, check your attitude and skills more often than your watch. Time- wasters creep into your life in the form of bad habits as a result of lackadaisical attitudes more often than poor planning. What are the time-wasters that you need to replace with more productive habits? Do you spend too much time on mindless activities because your skills are not up to speed? Once a minute is spent, it is gone forever. You cannot recover time especially the seconds, minutes, and hours that you waste. Manage your time as if it were your most precious asset because it is.

When was the last time you regretted saying something? The general advice here is to choose your words carefully. Try to be enthusiastic and edifying by focusing on the positive aspects of every situation. Once you say the wrong words, they are hard to take back. The other regret is when you should have spoken but you chose to remain silent. I insulted one of my business associates by failing to show my appreciation to him for giving me a referral some time back that generated some valuable business. He recently found out about it and was offended because I never so much as picked up the phone and thanked him for it. Remembering to say thank you and expressing appreciation are a very important part of using words.

One definition of opportunity is “a possibility created due to a favorable combination of circumstances.” Opportunity, whether it is for building a relationship, creating a fortune, or doing something special, is based on a person’s ability to recognize the situation when it is at hand. The word opportunity is not an “action word,” but for it to be of value to you, you must take action. The only synonym I could find for opportunity was “chance.” I found that interesting. Learn to recognize an opportunity when it presents itself so you don’t miss your chance. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. It is unlikely that those combinations of circumstances will appear again.

Law of Explosive Growth

I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. Running a business has always been part of my life. Being a businessman is just in my blood. When I first married, I joined an organization called Amway, a direct market sales organization. I saw the potential of building a great business with that organization. The business structure allowed you to recruit other people to sell products and you would make commissions off of them, and in turn they could recruit other people and you would make a commission off of their efforts and this continued for several more levels. So I got busy selling their unique cleaning products and recruiting people to sell for me. Although I made some extra spending money, and it was a good business experience, I never really made it big with Amway. The reason: I never applied the Law of Explosive Growth.

Everyone I recruited, including myself, was basically a follower. I did not understand the secret of the Law of Explosive Growth. The secret is recruiting leaders. When you recruit ten followers to your organization, you have the power of ten individuals. When you recruit ten leaders to your organization, you have the power of ten groups. It is the difference between addition and multiplication. The secret of applying the Law of Explosive Growth is in leadership.

No organization will rise above its leadership. You must first develop your leadership skills and then attract people who are at your level of leadership. Or better yet, attract people to your organization who have developed even better leadership skills than you. You will need people who have different leadership skills and abilities to head up different departments. All organizations need both leaders and followers.

It is important to learn to recognize people with leadership skills and potential. Leaders have a different focus and attitude. Leaders have a drive and want to succeed. They have a tendency to focus on the good and the strengths in every situation. They want to spend time with people who are making things happen. They see the value of other people. They are givers and are not afraid to share their authority and power. They see beyond where things are at. These are the people who will multiply your growth.
